Hey friends! It’s been a while since I have been on. We have had a lovely summer and I am truly sad to see it end. It’s been busy, and today I wanted to show you a couple of paint projects we have been working on.
First up is our back porch. As you can see, our house is all white, and I felt that from the back it was pretty plain jane, so I wanted to add some color and character to it. Here is a look at the befores…
Before I show you the afters, here are a few things that we did to spruce up the curb appeal in the back.
First we painted the back door. I was amazed at how much this made a difference in changing the look of the outside. I used the same color as our front exterior door that you can see here. It’s Web Gray by Sherwin-Williams at 150% strength.
We replaced the stairs with Trex Decking material from Lowe’s. This particular color is Toasted Sand.
We bought this furniture set from Walmart. It’s Better Homes and Gardens and was a fraction of the price of other outdoor sets we looked at. I have been really happy with the quality and the comfort of the chairs and couch. Right now, this set is sold out but here is a smaller version of it that is available.
We added a few final touches with lighting, pillows and flowers and it’s a much more pleasant place to come out and sip lemonade. 🙂
Mudroom Makeover and Lockers
For those of you that have built before or if you have done any renovation to your home, it’s an overwhelming process. I wasn’t sure what I wanted for the lockers and storage in our house at the time and didn’t feel like I could make one more decision. So this was our temporary solution, but as you can see there wasn’t a lot of organization.
COVID happened and it seemed like the perfect time to get to work. Coats were bulging from their hooks and shoes were overflowing from their baskets.
My husband Jason is pretty amazing. I showed him a few ideas of what I was hoping and he made a plan and got to work. We put shiplap behind the compartments and painted them Software by Sherwin-Williams. It’s a super close match to our laundry room cabinets and I wanted to tie the two together. We painted the white the same color as our trim, Pure White by Sherwin-Williams and then stained the bench part in Minwax Hickory.
After a few weekends of this, it was done.
Having this built-in organizer has been a game changer for me. Each kid has their own section for coats, backpacks, shoes, and also gloves and hats when it gets cold. Sometime this fall we are planning to add cabinets above the top baskets, which will also provide more storage space. For now, I am grateful for a little more organization. Especially as we start our school year tomorrow. I had to capture this because I’m sure this is the most organized and clean it is EVER going to look. We are starting our school year as Hybrid, so my kids will be in person two days a week and online the rest of the time. Hopefully if there isn’t a surge of cases we will go back to full time, but I have set my expectations very low. Here’s to a crazy, weird no expectation school year. I am trying to be positive and enjoy having my babies at home. Have a wonderful rest of your week!
