Hello friends! Happy 2020! I hope that your year is off to a great start so far.;)
Today I am sharing with you the 2020 Sherwin-Williams color of the year and different ways that you can incorporate it into your home. This is one of my favorite colors, especially as an accent, and I’m excited to show you how I have used it in my home, along with other ideas on how to use this trending color.
Naval by Sherwin-Williams is the perfect navy blue. I have seen it in many different rooms and spaces and have always loved the richness that it brings to the area that it is in. I adore it so much that I bought it to repaint my daughter’s dresser and then found out the very next day that Naval was the 2020 Color of the Year. Kind of cool.
So where should you incorporate Naval into your home?
Furniture
My number one place that I would recommend Naval in your home is in a piece of furniture. It looks stunning with gold accents and greenery and brings a pop of color to any neutral space.
A little rewind…if you’ve been following me for long, I posted this a few years ago when we found an old dresser at a garage sale and repainted it for our master bedroom. We painted it Grays Harbor and posted about it here.
We used it until we moved into our new home and then gave it to my daughter. The mirror was too big to fit in her room because of our angled ceilings, so she used an old one we had for the meantime and it just didn’t look good or coordinate with her other decor. So we decided to give it a facelift.
Here is the before of her dresser…
Kind of blah and very cluttered and messy.
And here it is after…
The painting was pretty simple, I sanded a few parts that needed it but because the colors were similar, the old color was not hard to cover up. The most time consuming part was taking out the old handles, filling them with wood filler, and then sanding them.
I love Naval with gold, so we put on some gold hardware and added a gold mirror from Target above the dresser.
Cabinets and Kitchen Island
Cabinets and kitchen islands look stunning in Naval. My sister, Kelsey, built a house a few years ago and chose to have Naval in some of her bathroom cabinetry. It’s beautiful and looks amazing with a great neutral wall color. (Repose Gray by Sherwin-Williams in this bathroom)
This island. I love a good pop of blue with white cabinets like this kitchen below. So pretty.
Accent Walls
Naval looks stunning as an accent color in any room. I have seen it with white trim, wood trim, and colored trim but love that although it’s a very rich deep color, it really seems to go with anything.
Here are a few pictures of Kelsey’s office she has in her home.
My friend Grace was also looking for an accent color to on her office wall. She has light oak cabinets and wanted something that would coordinate well with them. Naval was also chosen as her accent color and I thought it turned out amazing.
Here is the before…
And the after! So cute with the white shelves and candy jars with office supplies.
Exterior
Last but not least, I LOVE Naval on the exterior of a home. I especially love the one below because it has white and wood accents to give it a modern coastal vibe.
If Naval is a little too overbearing for you and you want a more subtle pop of color, it makes for a great exterior door color.
In my honest humble opinion, I really don’t think you can go wrong with Naval. I think it looks the best with a crisp white or a pop of gold next to it and can add character to any room of your home.

I hope you have fun using it this year. I have a feeling 2020 is going to be great. 🙂
